On the occasion of the 99th birthday of General Vo Nguyen Giap, top party, state and government officials visited and well wished General Vo Nguyen Giap on August 24.

On the occasion of the 99th birthday of General Vo Nguyen Giap (August 25, 1911 – August 25, 2009), top party, state and government officials visited and well wished General Vo Nguyen Giap on August 24.

Among them were Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan, General Phung Quang Thanh, Politburo Member and Minister of National Defence, To Huy Rua, Politburo Member and Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Education and Propaganda and leaders of ministries and branches.

Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh wished General Vo Nguyen Giap the best of health, longevity and a sound mind to continue to contribute his important opinions to the country’s renewal cause.

The Party leader affirmed that General Giap is forever a bright example regarding a commander-in-chief and the eldest brother of the Vietnam People’s Army, who has made significant contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.

On the behalf of the Central Party Military Committee – the Ministry of National Defence and officers and men in the whole army, Minister Phung Quang Thanh wished General Vo Nguyen Giap good health and longevity and confirmed that General Giap’s example had always been the source of big encouragement and great pride for the Vietnam People’s Army and the armed forces.

He expressed his wish that the Genreral continues to make more contributions to the cause of building up the ever stronger Vietnam People’s Army to best fulfill the task of defending the country.

General Vo Nguyen Giap expressed his thanks to the leaders of the Party, State and Army, and his pleasure at the achievements recorded by the Party, State and Army in recent time.

He hoped that officers and men in the whole army would continue to bring into full play of the ‘Uncle Ho’s Soldiers’ tradition by trying their best to study and practise for combat readiness and best fulfilling all tasks assigned by the Vietnamese Party, State and people.
