Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked for more role model campaigns to be launched across the country to fulfill the socio-economic tasks set for 2009.

At the 29th session of the Central Council for Emulation and Commendation (CCEC) in Hanoi Monday, PM Dung said that a greater effort is needed to meet this year’s targets.

Presiding over the meeting, he stressed that exemplary individuals and programs should be popularized and emulative campaigns broadened especially among workers and farmers.

He called for a more proactive national effort in emulation campaigns to fulfill socio-economic targets set by the party and the government.

Dung also urged agencies to complete the draft decree on instructing the enforcement of the Law on Emulation and Commendation.

He suggested that emulation campaigns should be linked with the country’s celebrations and events and asked for more media support.

According the CCEC report, ministries, sectors and localities have launched many emulation campaigns since the beginning of the year to promote socio-economic development, guarantee social security, improve people’s living standards and boost anticorruption efforts.

In the first half, President Nguyen Minh Triet and PM Dung conferred five Gold Star Medals, 25 Ho Chi Minh Medals, 1,087 Medals of Independence, 11 Heroes of Labor, 29 Heroes of People’s Armed Forces, and 176 National Eminent Workers awards.
