Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung presses the launch button to kick off the East Sea broadcasting program.

National radio station Voice of Vietnam said it launched its East Sea broadcasting project on Saturday, providing radio coverage 3,500 kilometers from the coast to include all Vietnamese territorial waters.

The project is expected to provide “round-the-clock information” to fishermen and soldiers operating offshore, the radio station said in a report on its website.

Speaking at the launch of the service, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said the government would continue to finance the second phase of the project to offer news updates regularly for coastal provinces, especially at night.

The first phase of the project was completed in eight months, according to the report.
