The seventh National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) will convene on September 28 in Hanoi.

The seventh National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) will convene on September 28 in Hanoi.

The three-day event will be attended by 1,300 delegates, comprising 989 official members and 311 guests. Of these, 41 will be overseas Vietnamese, said the Standing committee of the VFF in Hanoi on September 15.

There will be 262 delegates from the ethnic communities, 160 delegates who are religious followers, 278 female delegates and 479 non-Party delegates.

The oldest delegate will be Veneral Thich Pho Tue (92) from the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, while the youngest will be Vu Thi Xua (19), an ethnic minority delegate from the northern mountain province of Ha Giang.

The congress will also be attended by 4 delegations from China, Laos, Cambodia and Cuba.

The Vietnamese Fatherland Front founded February 1977 is a group of mass movements in Vietnam. The Front is the political base of people’s power. It has a significant role in society, promoting national solidarity and unity of mind in political and spiritual matters. Many of the government’s social programs are conducted through the Front. Recently, it has been given a role in programs to reduce poverty. The Front is also responsible for much of the government’s policy on religion.
