Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has authorized the United Nations to upgrade a six story building on Hanoi’s Kim Ma Boulevard into a common headquarters for all UN agencies in Vietnam.

This apartment building, 304 Kim Ma, is at Gate 2E in the so-called Van Phuc ‘diplomatic compound’ and is currently assigned to UNDP, the United Nations Development Program, by the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry’s Diplomatic Corps Service Department.

The Vietnamese government will exempt 2,000 square meters from building fees for UN organizations that have not received exemptions yet.

In addition, the government will exempt the land leasing fee for the 5,500 square meter site at on Kim Ma Street for 11 years from the day the Foreign Ministry hands over this building to the UN. After 11 years, further exemptions will be considered.

The UN has one year to make necessary repairs and improvements, which will include construction of two more buildings as well as renovation of the aging apartment house.

The Government instructed the Hanoi People’s Committee to facilitate the buildings’ upgrades. The Foreign Ministry and related agencies will support the UN in improvements to the buildings.
