RoK President to visit Vietnam; Libya’s Revolution Day celebrated in Hanoi; Training course opens for Laos party members; Vietnam backs int’l community’s efforts for Ivory Coast reconstruction

The President of the Republic of Korea Lee Myung-bak will pay an official visit to Vietnam.

The President of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Lee Myung-bak will pay an official visit to Vietnam from October 20-22.

The visit will be made at the invitation of State President Nguyen Minh Triet.

Libya’s Revolution Day celebrated in Hanoi

The Libyan Economic Cooperation Office in Vietnam on Oct. 14 held a reception to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Libyan Al Fateh Revolution Day (September 1).

Representatives from foreign embassies and relevant Vietnamese ministries and sectors attended the function.

Over the past 40 years, Libya has achieved great successes in the fields of politics, economics and social welfare. From a poor country with 90 percent of its land being desert or semi-desert, Libya has grown into a nation with development in many fields and is described as a “New African Tiger”.

Libya ranks fourth in Africa and 17th in the world in size with an area of 1.8 million sq.km. The country is rich in mineral resources, including oil, iron ore and uranium. It’s explored oil reserve is estimated at 44 billion barrels of crude oil.

Training course opens for Laos party members

A personnel management training course got under way on October 14 in Hanoi for members of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.

The course, organised by the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Public Administration, will last for three months.

During the training, 17 Lao officers will study various modules on Marxism and Leninism as well as the ideology of Ho Chi Minh in order to get a better grasp of the theoretical underpinnings and practical basis of the policies and political guidelines of the party and state of Vietnam .

Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Director of the academy Le Quoc Ly said the training course is part of the bilateral cooperation agreement between Vietnam and Laos and it helps strengthen and promote the special friendship and solidarity between the two nations.

Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Soothorn Xayachack reiterated the importance of the cooperation in personnel training and management between the two parties and states and highly praised Vietnam ’s support for Laos in the area.

Vietnam backs int’l community’s efforts for Ivory Coast reconstruction

Vietnam continues to support the role of United Nations agencies, the African Union, the West African Economic Community and the international community in helping Ivory Coast promote national stability and reconstruction, said a Vietnamese diplomat at the UN.

Ambassador Le Luong Minh, Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the UN Security Council, expressed his concerns on challenges the African country is settling, which include unstable situation in northern and western Ivory Coast , increasing overseas debts, risk of rearmament of guerrilla groups, illicit drug and weapon trafficking and organised crimes.

In capacity of the UN Security Council’s rotating monthly president, Ambassador Minh at the Council’s consultation meeting on Ivory Coast on Oct. 13 acknowledged the progress in preparations for the presidential elections in the African nation scheduled for Nov. 29.

He called on all political parties in Ivory Coast to join forces to solve differences in the spirit of reconciliation and dialogue, contributing to building a favourable politic-security environment before and after the elections.

The Council agreed that “the long-term peace, stability and development of Ivory Coast was also dependent on the balanced and comprehensive settlement of many other security, socio-economic and cross-border challenges,” Ambassador Minh told reporters after the meeting.

He reiterated that the Council backed the role of the UN agencies, regional organisations and the international community in supporting national rebuilding process of Ivory Coast.
