Vietnam and France are expected to sign a national defense cooperation agreement during Prime Minister Francois Fillon’s visit on November 12-13, local newswire Vietnamnet reported on Monday.

Agreements on civil nuclear projects and the monitoring of fishing boats via satellite are also expected to be signed, the news source said, noting that the French PM would be accompanied by representatives of 40 the country’s leading groups in fields like aerospace and energy.

A business forum will also be held to promote trade between the two countries, according to the report.

France is the second largest aid donor to Vietnam after Japan. The country has donated over 2 billion euros (US$2.9 million) for local programs and French firms have invested another $3 billion in 216 projects here.

Vietnamese exports to France totaled some $786 million last year.
