China has violated Vietnam’s sovereignty by sending ships to the Truong Sa and Hoang Sa archipelagos, Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Nguyen Phuong Nga said Friday.

Nga made the statement at a press briefing in Hanoi after China sent two fishery patrol ships to the Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago and one medical ship to the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago.

“Vietnam reaffirms its indisputable sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos,” she said. “China’s sending of the ships to Hoang Sa and Truong Sa is a serious violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty over the two archipelagos.”

Nga also said Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry met with the Chinese Embassy on Friday to protest the move and demand China put an end to all activities that would further complicate the East Sea situation in order to maintain peace in the region.
