“We don’t let anyone invade our territory, our sea and our islands. This is sound policy and the unshakeable determination of the Party and the State,” said President Nguyen Minh Triet.

Visiting Bach Long Vi island, over 70 nautical miles from the mainland, President Triet expressed his admiration and gratefulness to the people and soldiers who are willing to endure difficulties to fulfill their duties and live on the island. The President said that the island is small, but it is the country’s sacred land and a strategic outpost for defense and security.

Triet called on Regiment HQ 953 on Bach Long Vi, where he confirmed that Vietnam loves peace and wants to solve border matters, especially sea borders, by peaceful negotiation.

The President emphasized: “For borders and territorial waters, we always want to have peace and friendship between nations and between nations that share borders with us. That is the aspiration of the people. With peace and friendship, the people can have stable life. That is the goodwill of our nation in thousand years of struggling for building and defending the country.”

“We don’t lust for land of others, but we won’t make concessions for even an inch of land of our country,” he commented.
