The two sides discussed issues on which their views remained different, including common principles, clauses on non-proliferation of mass weapons, principles on cooperation in trade and investment, trade consultation, the technical barriers to trade agreement (TBT), the sanitary and phytosanitary measures agreement (SPS), the intellectual property right (IPR), tariff, labour and job, migration, education, health, and natural disaster mitigation and prevention.

According to a joint statement issued at the end of the three-day talks, the two sides made important progress during this round and looked to complete the negotiations before the end of 2010 in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Vietnam-EU diplomatic ties.

Both sides agreed to conduct the eighth round of negotiations for PCA in Hanoi in early July.

The Vietnamese delegation to the negotiation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and the EU side by James Moran, Director for Asia of the European Commission’s Directorate General for External Relations.
