Bridge – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on June 17 proposed the National Assembly to approve Pham Vu Luan as Minister of Education and Training to replace Nguyen Thien Nhan. The NA approved the proposal on June 18.

Luan is currently Deputy Minister of Education and Training.

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong also introduced Mai Xuan Hung, permanent member of the National Assembly’s Committee for Economics, as the nominee for the post of Vice Chairman of the NA’s Committee for Economics.

Luan was born in 1955 and is a professor and doctor of economics. He was the director of the University of Trade from 1999 to 2004. He was appointed as Deputy Minister of Education and Training in June 2004. He became permanent Deputy Minister in December 2009.

Since April 2010, he has temporarily replaced Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan.

Mai Xuan Hung was born in 1955 and holds the doctor of economic sciences diploma. He is now an NA deputy and a permanent member of the NA’s Committee for Economics. He was a member of the Hanoi People’s Council.

The NA will vote on the two proposals this afternoon, June 18.

Previously, NA deputies agreed to dismiss Nguyen Thien Nhan as Minister of Education and Training so Nhan will have more time for his job as Deputy PM and Nguyen Hoang Anh as vice chairman of the NA’s Committee for Economics to become chairman of Cao Bang province.

The NA on June 18 approved both Luan and Hung as Minister of Education and Training and vice chair of the NA’s Committee for Economics.
