Ambassador interested in Dubai bonded warehouse model; Vietnam, India hold dialogue on national defense strategy; Deputy PM Khiem to visit China; Germany helps train Vietnamese officials

Ambassador interested in Dubai bonded warehouse model

Nguyen Quang Khai, Vietnamese ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), recently visited the bonded warehouse of GAEP International in Dubai to explore its operations.

This is one of the biggest bonded warehouses in Dubai equipped with modern freezing systems that can preserve cooking for a long time. All imports and re-exports to and from the house are exempt from taxes, except for customs fees of 5 percent.

Ambassador Khai expressed Vietnam’s desire to share experience in building such warehouses in the country with the group, saying these warehouses will help farmers and producers preserve their products after harvests to reduce economic losses.

Mahendra Patel, president of the group, said through GAEP International, Vietnamese businesses can export rice, sugar, tea, coffee, meat, fish, and canned products to the UAE and the whole region.

Ambassador Khai invited CEO Patel to visit Vietnam in September to discuss the possibility of exporting Vietnamese products through the group’s bonded warehouse.

Meeting honours former party leader

During nearly 70 years of revolutionary activities, former Party General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh (1915-1998) made big contributions to national liberation and reunification.

Professor Le Huu Nghia, member of the Party Central Committee and director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Public Administration, told 200 scholars at a symposium in Ha Noi yesterday to mark the 95th anniversary of Linh’s birth.

“Linh was an excellent disciple of President Ho Chi Minh, a staunch communist who spent his whole life striving for the ideal of national independence and socialism and the people’s happiness,” Nghia said.

“He was a prestigious leader of the Party, people and armed forces, and a reliable comrade of international friends.”

Their presentations clarified Linh’s perseverance, morality and innovative efforts in building the Party and an international environment conducive to peace and friendship.

They said this paved the way for Viet Nam to enter a period of integration and development.

Linh held positions in many localities and agencies.

He was attentive to the people’s concerns and opinions, improving his theoretical knowledge while being pragmatic in making the Party’s strategy and policy.

The symposium agreed that he had left an example of excellence as a communist “extremely loyal to the Party and extremely devoted to the people”.

Nation encouraged to emulate President Ho

The four-year long campaign to follow President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example should become a part of the daily life of every Vietnamese citizen.

Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, who is head of the campaign’s central committee, said this at a meeting here yesterday to examine the campaign’s activities this year.

“The campaign has received strong response from the entire party, political organisations and people nationwide,” said Manh, adding that it had actively contributed to the nation’s socio-economic development.

However, he said the campaign should become a part of the lives of all Vietnamese citizens in an effort to build a healthy culture and a spiritual foundation for the society.

To secure higher momentum for the campaign, Manh asked leaders and party members to be role models for other people, including overseas Vietnamese.

Regarding tasks for the last six months of the year, he asked campaign steering committees to link the campaign with preparations for party congresses in their localities and the National Party Congress, which is scheduled for early 2011.

Manh asked the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Public Administration to include President Ho’s moral examples in text books.

“To prepare for this, the two institutions should organise training courses for teachers right from now,” Manh said.

An overall view of the four-year long campaign will begin in October. A national review conference will be held in December.

Germany helps train Vietnamese officials

Ho Duc Viet, a Party Politburo member and Secretary of the Party Central Committee paid a working visit to Germany from June 23-26.

Mr Viet is also head of the Party Commission for Organisation and head of the Party Steering Committee for Programme 165 which is designed to train State officials.

During his stay in Berlin, Mr Viet held working sessions with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Universities of Potsdam and Berlin, and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to discuss the possibility of cooperation in training Vietnamese managers at German institutions.

German organisations said they are willing to cooperate with Programme 165 in developing short- and long-term training courses for Vietnamese officials majoring in administration, urban management, personnel management, environmental protection, international law and the German language.

Mr Viet worked with Vietnamese Embassy staff, representatives of the Vietnamese community in Germany, and witnessed the signing of an economic contract between the PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVC) and Germany’s EUROPIPE company.

Vietnam, India hold dialogue on national defense strategy

The fifth Vietnam-India dialogue on national defense strategy took place in New Delhi, from June 23-25, attended by the Vietnamese and Indian Deputy Ministers of National Defense.

The two sides reviewed national defense cooperation over the past year, proposed orientations for future cooperation and compared notes on regional and international issues of common concern, and discussed agendas and cooperation mechanisms for the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM+) which is scheduled for Hanoi in mid- October.

They agreed on specific measures to implement the accords signed during Vietnamese Defence Minister, Phung Quang Thanh’s visit to India last year.

This week, Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of National Defense Nguyen Chi Vinh paid a courtesy visit to Indian Minister of National Defense A.K. Antony and conveyed Defense Minister Thanh’s personal invitation to Mr Antony for the ADMM+.

Accepting Mr Thanh’s invitation, Mr Antony praised Vietnam’s role in ASEAN, saying that ADMM+ will present a new security model of great interest to India.

Deputy PM Khiem to visit China

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem will attend the fourth meeting of the Steering Committee for Vietnam-China Bilateral Cooperation in Beijing and visit China from June 29 to July 3, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Mr Khiem and China’s State Counsellor Dai Bingguo will co-chair the meeting to review the areas of cooperation between the two countries after the previous meeting, and discuss measures to promote bilateral cooperation.
