This week the National Assembly (NA) will spend three afternoons on June 16, 17 and 18 making decisions on personnel. Other important issues will be decided this week, the last week of the seventh NA session.

Overview of 7th National Assembly session

According to NA Office Chairman Tran Dinh Dan, the NA will appoint a new Minister of Education and Training to replace Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, at the government’s proposal.

The NA will also dismiss some vice-chairs and permanent members of some NA committees to elect new ones.

Today, the NA will discuss the master development plan for Hanoi until 2030 and the vision for the future until 2050.

On the last day of the session, June 19, the NA will make a decision on the investment policy for the North-South express railway. This project was discussed in groups and at the great hall with different opinions.

The NA will also ratify the program to build laws and ordinances in 2011. The most important point in this program is the amendment to the 1992 Constitution.

The amended Resolution on national projects, which needs the NA’s approval on investment policy, will be voted on in the final meeting.

This week, NA deputies will vote on the resolution on state budget balance 2008 and the resolution on supervision of higher education.

The NA will discuss the Law on Officials, amended Law on Minerals, the Law on Protection of Consumer Interest and the Administrative Procedural Law this week.

The closing meeting will take place on June 19 and will be aired live on VTV1.
