This is an extremely important project so the Government will re-submit it to the National Assembly at a suitable time, stated Government Office Chair Nguyen Xuan Phuc on July 20.

Phuc confirmed at the National Assembly Standing Committee meeting on July 20 that the project is halted to facilitate more careful preparations, not because of differences in Government and National Assembly’s viewpoints.

“The express railway project is an important project. The Government will listen to opinions and seek a suitable time to submit it [to the National Assembly],” explained Phuc.

The National Assembly’s recent rejection of the $56 billion express railway project is a rare case in the history of the Vietnamese National Assembly.
