The visit is organized to celebrate the 15th of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations.

Rear Admiral Michelle Howard, Commander of Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) 2, and CVN 77 Commander DeWolfe Miller received the Vietnamese delegation.

Rear Admiral Howard observed that the US and Vietnam are both sea-bordered countries, so they share common targets and interests, particularly ensuring security for sea travel, transport and trade.

USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77) is the tenth and final Nimitz-class super-carrier in the US Navy. She is named for the 41st President of the United States, George H. W. Bush, who was a naval aviator during World War II.

Construction began in 2001 at the Northrop Grumman Newport News shipyard, at a cost of $6.2 billion, and the carrier was completed in 2009. She is docked at the Norfolk Naval Station in Virginia.
