VietNamNet Bridge – Nearly 200 officials in the Mekong River Delta have been using fake high-school diplomas, according to Tuoi Tre Daily.

These forgeries are granted under the name of Department of Education and Training of Can Tho, which confirmed that these are counterfeit documents.

Nguyen Thi Thuan from Can Tho Department of Education and Training told Tuoi Tre that she had spoken frankly at the Party Congress of some communes and districts about these faked diplomas.

Thuan received many dispatches from Party Committees of Mekong Delta districts as well as HCM City, asking for assistance in verifying high-school diplomas granted by her agency.

According to Thuan, hundreds of officials in the Mekong Delta provinces of Soc Trang, An Giang, Vinh Long, Can Tho and HCM City used forged high-school diplomas. There are over 100 cases in Soc Trang province alone.

Notably, though Can Tho Department of Education and Training found some fake documents, the diplomas were then confirmed as real by a fake dispatch sent under the name of Can Tho Department of Education and Training.

Senior Lieutenant-Colonel Dang Thi Ben from Soc Trang Province Police Agency revealed that police are investigating a network that produces fake documents of all kinds. “This network operates in many provinces and cities, including Hanoi, HCM City and other provinces, so we must carefully investigate,” Ben explained.

Can Tho has discovered over 100 officials with forged diplomas and Ben noted that the number may be higher. She confirmed that officials using forgeries would not be appointed to any position and would be punished.
