Government office chair Nguyen Xuan Phuc has stated that the Government does not plan to allow government employees and students to take a week off during the capital city’s great anniversary (October 1-10). Chairman of the government office Nguyen Xuan Phuc on September 8 stated that the government does not plan to allow Government employees and students to take a week off during the capital city’s great anniversary (October 1-10).

Hanoi authorities also confirmed that the government does not plan to grant students an extended holiday from school during the anniversary to avoid traffic jams.

Phuc released the announcement to reject rumors on online forums and blogs that government employees and students will have a week off during Hanoi’s great anniversary. Many young people have already made plans for the “holiday.”

A senior official from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Nguyen Hiep Thong said: “Ten days for the city’s birthday anniversary is not an opportunity for students to quit school. They can celebrate the anniversary by studying harder.”

According to Hanoi authorities, the Russian and French Presidents, the British Princess, and many chiefs of state will go to Hanoi during its great anniversary. The city will also welcome 62 delegations from 62 provinces and cities.

To prevent gridlock, all vehicles will be banned from roads around the Hoan Kiem Lake and the Ba Dinh Square on October 1 and 10.

In related news, Hanoi has invited reporters from 40 countries to cover its great anniversary. International journalists will arrive in Vietnam today, September 9.

During their time in Hanoi, they will visit the ancient capital of Hoa Lu in Ninh Binh province, Van Mieu (Temple of Literature), Thang Long Royal Citadel, and some craft villages like Bat Trang and Van Phuc to learn about the city’s 1,000-year history. They will also meet with Hanoi’s outstanding business leaders.

In related news, 1,000 martial-arts practitioners will perform a martial arts and unicorn-lion dance show in front of the main gate of Hanoi’s Thong Nhat park on September 11.

This is the highlight of a festival called “Hallmarks of 1,000 Years,” held by the Hanoi Ho Chi Minh Youth Union to celebrate the city’s 1,000th birthday from September 9-12.

The performance will have the participation of 1,000 martial arts practitioners from many provinces and cities.
