VietNamNet Bridge – Deputies “graded” four ministers and the Prime Minister for their performance at the question and answer session that closed yesterday, November 24, in Hanoi.

Deputy Nguyen Minh Thuyet said deputies raised questions that met constituents’ expectations but ministers didn’t answer directly the questions and didn’t define their responsibility.

“I like Minister Nguyen Quoc Trieu (Health Minister). His answer went to the point. He frankly talked about the tasks that his Ministry has not fulfilled yet and sought solutions,” Thuyet said.

“We want to solve many issues in the health sector like improving the quality of health services, reducing the overload at hospitals, etc. But our resources are limited and the state budget for the health sector is also limited”.

Thuyet said he was not satisfied with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s answers. “But it is difficult to ask him more (about the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group - Vinashin) because the government has to report to the Central Inspection Committee and the Party Central Committee firstly.”

“I was lucky to be the first deputy asking the PM. I was not satisfied with the PM’s answers,” said Deputy Pham Thi Loan.

“Firstly, in my calculation, Vinashin can’t pay the debt itself. It needs outside support, for example more money from the budget or the state’s permission to sell estate, assets, etc.,” Loan said.

“The Prime Minister said that he couldn’t have a specific answer for this so he should not tell the people that Vinashin would pay the debt itself. We should be more practical to find out the real matter to take effective measures”.

She said it is not enough for the PM to say that he takes the responsibility for the government’s weakness in Vinashin case. If he takes the responsibility, what will he do next? She questioned.

According to Loan, the National Assembly should attach more importance to supervising how cabinet members realize their commitments after question and answer sessions.

Deputy Tran Du Lich said that the PM clearly showed he took his responsibility. “In the circumstance when the government has too much work to do, for example inflation, as an NA deputy, I would like to share the difficulties with the PM,” Lich said.

He said he expected the Prime Minister’s determination to deal with issues like Vinashin will help reach a successful outcome and he will soon announce the results of the inspection of the government’s responsibility in the Vinashin case.
