In his speech, President Triet reviewed important
landmarks in cooperation between the two countries while affirming that the
Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership is growing and flourishing in all fields.

Vietnam praised Japan’s cooperation in
infrastructure development, nuclear power, oil and gas, clean energy development
and natural resources and mineral exploitation. The forum provided an excellent
opportunity for businesses in Nagoya to gain updated information about Vietnam,
a newly emerging economy which is actively integrating into the world economy
and always appreciates the contributions of Japanese investors to its economic
development. Nagoya and adjacent areas are the home to Japan’s high-tech
industries that interest Vietnam such as automobile, aviation, machine-tool
manufacturing, and industrial robots, said Mr Triet.

He called on businesses from both countries to
boost cooperation and forge links to strengthen the strategic partnership.

Since 1992, Japan has been one of Vietnam’s top
trade partners and provided nearly US$16 billion in ODA to the country. Last
year’s two-way trade turnover between them reached more than US$13 billion and
Japan currently ranks third among 92 countries and territories investing in
Vietnam. The strong steady growth of trade and investment in recent times has
shown that the two economies have mutually supplementary advantages and the two
business communities have many opportunities to cooperate for further
development.

Along with the development of Vietnam-Japan
relations, Japanese businesses have been very successful in investing in
Vietnam. In addition to the exchange of usual products, such as machinery,
crude oil, computers and components, rubber, wood, garments and textiles, steel,
iron and seacooking, a wealth of new opportunities are opening up to both
Vietnamese and Japanese businesses.

Mr Triet also witnessed the signing of a number
of cooperation agreements and economic contracts between businesses in the two
countries.

The same day, President Triet and his delegation
left Nagoya city, concluding their visit to Japan where they attended the 18
APEC Summit.
