Vietnam has opened a consulate in Nagoya, Japan’s fourth most populated city.

The move comes three months after the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines resumed a route between Ho Chi Minh City and the Japanese city.

Yukihisa Hirano, chairman of the Centrair International Airport Joint Stock Company, will serve as honorary consul.

Addressing the consulate’s opening ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Nguyen Phu Binh said the appointment of Hirano as the honorary consul in Nagoya has a great significance in boosting ties between two countries, as Nagoya is an economic hub in central Japan.

For his part, Yukihisa Hirano pledged to do his best to enhance Vietnam-Japan exchanges.

Vietnam already has three diplomatic representative offices in Japan: the Embassy in the capital city of Tokyo, and consulate general offices in the central city of Osaka and the southern city of Fukuoka.
