General Nghien was born on January 23 1951 in the northern province of Phu Tho.

 

He was a member of the Party Central Committee, the Chief of General Staff of the Vietnamese Army, Deputy Minister of Defense and a National Assembly deputy.

 

The general passed away at the Army Hospital 108 in Hanoi on November 13 due to a serious illness.

 

The general contributed greatly to the country in the past 40 years. He was presented many honorable medals of the Party, the State and the Army.

 

The funeral will be organized by the state at the National Funeral House, 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi on November 17. The general will lay to rest at Hanoi’s Mai Dich cemetery.
