Voters in Ha Noi’s Ba Dinh and Cau Giay districts said they
wanted results of investigation into violations leading shipbuilder Vinashin
into near-bankruptcy to soon be made public in a meeting with National Assembly
Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong yesterday, Nov 30.

It would
help improve people’s confidence in the Government, they told the top lawmaker.

Voters
also asked for stricter management over State economic groups and corporations
after the ship builder incurred VND86 trillion (US$4.2 billion) in debts.

During
last week’s Q&A session in the assembly, which was broadcast live on TV, Prime
Minister Nguyen Tan Dung accepted responsibility for the case. He also promised
that the investigation into Vinashin’s near-bankruptcy would be done in a
“serious manner” and that results would be made public by January.

The
safety of bauxite projects in the Central Highlands, leasing of forest land,
climate change, traffic safety, urban planning, social housing, and price hikes
were also hot issues at the meeting.

Phan
Dang Binh, chairman of Trung Hoa Ward’s Association of the Elderly, said that no
documents supporting the Law on the Elderly had been prepared even though the
law was passed in November 2009 and took effect last July.

“The
issues stipulated in the law must be implemented,” he said.

The
assembly chairman agreed that it was important to ensure that issued laws were
brought to life quickly.

All
opinions from voters would be reported to the National Assembly and sent to
relevant authorities, Trong said.
