Knowledge vital on climate Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem has said ASEAN member countries should pool their engineering and technology to mitigate the consequences of climate changes. The Vietnamese Government attached great importance to ensuring cooking and security as well as developing education and training and science and technology, he told the on-going 28th ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations in Ha Noi. The purpose was to make science and technology a prime mover of social development, he said. Participants at the two-day conference introduced the scientific and technological achievements of member countries in fields such as housing construction and environmental technology as well as engineering, including energy, and training. They also displayed new products and research projects and visited major projects and production facilities in Ha Noi and neighbouring provinces. German state eager for clear ties with Vietnam | Photo: Vietnam+ | Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan expressed his delight of the rapid development in the multi-faceted cooperation between Vietnam and Germany which is shown by the regular exchange of high ranking delegations between the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic ties 35 years ago. At a reception for the visiting State Secretary in the Ministry of Economy and Labour from the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, Detlef Schubert in Hanoi on December 1 the Deputy Prime Minister praised the strengths and potential of Saxony Anhalt in science, technology, education and training. He said that Vietnam wants to boost cooperation and learn more in these fields from the German state. He also thanked the state’s local authorities for creating preferential conditions for the Vietnamese community to integrate better into German society. Mr Schubert informed that many Saxony-Anhalt businesses are accompanying him to Vietnam to research the market and seek long-term business opportunities in the country. Toast to N Korean friendship A banquet was held yesterday, Dec 1, to celebrate the 45th anniversaries of the founding of the Viet Nam-Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Friendship Association and the DPRK-Viet Nam Friendship Association (1965-2010). At the banquet, participants spoke highly of the friendships and traditional co-operative ties between the two countries. On the occasion, Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organisations vice chairman Tran Dac Loi presented the “For Peace and Friendship among Nations” insignia to individuals who had greatly contributed to the two countries’ relations. Ukraine parliamentary visit A delegation from the Ukrainian Parliament, headed by Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn, will make an official visit to Viet Nam from December 5-8, the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee announced yesterday, Dec 1. The visit will be made at the invitation of NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong. Cambodia PM receives CPV delegation A delegation from the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) led by Hoang Binh Quan, a member of the Party Central Committee and Chairman of its Commission for External Relations paid a courtesy visit to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on December 1. The CPV delegation is in Phnom Penh to attend the sixth General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties which is being held in Phnom Penh from December 1-4 with 85 representatives from 35 nations around the region. At the reception, PM Hun Sen thanked the Vietnamese Party and State for timely sending its condolences to the Cambodian government and people after the recent serious stampede in Phnom Penh. The PM said the relationship between the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and CPV is very special and expressed his wish that the 11th National Party Congress of the CPV will be held successfully early next year. Vietnam, Laos seek to boost judicial ties The Supreme People’s Procuracy of Vietnam (SPPV) and the Lao Supreme People’s Procuracy (LSPP) have agreed to promote the exchange of delegations of senior experts and provincial officials and share information as well as experiences in combating crime. The agreement was reached at a December 1 meeting between a delegation of the LSPP and the SPPV delegation headed by its Director Tran Quoc Vuong, who is on a five-day working visit to Laos at the invitation of the LSPP Director Somphanh Phengkhammy, starting on December 1. The two sides compared notes on each country’s socio-economic development and outcomes of the cooperation in training judicial officials, as well as preparations for the second conference of people’s procuracy bodies for Vietnamese and Lao border provinces hosted by the LSPP. The SPPV pledged to help the LSPP in training Lao judicial officials and continue dispatching experts to the country. Both host and guest also agreed to work closely on the implementation of the Vietnam-Laos treaty on mutual judicial assistance in civil and criminal matters which was agreed in Hanoi on July 6, 1998. Vietnamese leaders congratulate Laos on National Day The leaders of the Party, State, Government and National Assembly have congratulated their Lao counterparts on their 35th National Day (December 2). In the messages, Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, State President Nguyen Minh Triet, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong expressed their pleasure with Laos’ achievements in national defence and construction over the past 35 years. Under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the Lao fraternal people have maintained national independence and sovereignty, political stability, security, national defence and social order, ensured unceasing economic growth, and gained achievements in other areas, such as education, culture, health care, poverty reduction and improvement of living conditions, and raised the country’s position in regional and international arenas. “The Party, State and people of Vietnam and the Lao fraternal Party, State and people are determined to maintain and promote the special friendship solidarity – the invaluable treasure established and fostered by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kaysone Phomvihane, to bring the ties to a new height for the benefit of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world,” they said.
