Vietnam rejects US report on religious freedom
Published: 23/12/2010 05:00
The Foreign Ministry has rejected a resolution on religion in Vietnam recently passed by the US House of Representatives as incorrect and lacking in objectivity. The H.Res.20, passed by the lower house of the US Congress on Friday, does not reflect the real situation in Vietnam, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nguyen Phuong Nga said Saturday. The H.Res.20 calls on the US State Department to list the Vietnam as a “country of particular concern” with respect to religious freedom. It was introduced by Rep. Edward Royce in January this year. According to a Vietnam News Agency report, Nga told the press that the Vietnamese citizens’ relegious right was respected and enshrined in the country’s Constitution and its laws. She said 80 percent of the population led a “relegious life” and most of the major relegions in the world could be found in the country. “Vietnam is willing to talk to all sides, including the US, in order to minimize and solve existing differences,” she said.
