- The 11th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) has received warm
applause from international experts and reporters over the past ten days.

They highly appreciated Vietnam’s
achievements since the renewal process was launched in 1986 and expressed their
belief that with policies and strategies approved at the Congress, and under
the sound leadership of the Party, Vietnam will see more significant
developments in the future.

China’s
mass media including the China Central Television, Xinhua News Agency, People’s
Daily widely covered the closing session of the Vietnam’s 11th National Party
Congress.

In an interview with a VOV reporter, Wang Jiarui, Head of
the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China Central
Committee, said the Congress was a great festival of the CPV in the early stage
of 2010s.

Under the leadership of the CPV and Vietnamese Government,
the Vietnamese people will successfully overcome challenges to speed up the
renewal process and achieve the goal of a strong country with rich people
living in a democratic, equitable, and civilized society.

The Chairman of the Cuba National Assembly, Ricardo Alarcon,
emphasized that the 11th National Party Congress was an important event to lead
Vietnam
on the way to socialism.

Mr. Alarcon said the Congress reflected the CPV’s firm
resolve to implement the development strategy. He spoke highly of Vietnam’s
socio-economic achievements over the past 25 years under the leadership of the
Party.

Despite challenges caused by the global economic crisis, Vietnam has
always done its best to reinforce the political system and the national unity
bloc to protect its national independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial
integrity, he said.

The Chairman emphasized that Vietnam has successfully applied
Marxism-Leninism in its renewal process and affirmed the historic value of Ho
Chi Minh Thought.

The Asahi Shimbun, a major Japanese daily newspaper,
considered Nguyen Phu Trong a pillar of theory for the CPV and said that the
new leadership will follow the Party’s renewal policies to promote Vietnam’s
economic development.

Another Japanese newspaper, Sankei, said the report approved
at the Congress shows Vietnam’s
political consistency with its renewal process, especially as it has decided a
pilot programme to admit business owners to the Party.

The CPV will attract the participation of all social
classes, it said.

According to Japan’s
NHK Television, the new leaders of the CPV voiced their determination to
promote Vietnam’s
economic growth.

The closing session of the Congress was also covered by many
other major news agencies such as AP, BBC, and AFP. Alastair Leithead, an
Asia-based BBC correspondent, said delegates to the Congress reached a high
consensus when approving the country’s five-year socio-economic development
plan and voting a new Party leadership.

More than 100 reporters were involved in reflecting the
progress of the Congress.

Ali, a reporter from Angola’s EME newspaper, expressed
his delight at the continuous efforts made by the Vietnamese Party and people
in boosting economic development, improving the people’s living conditions, and
reducing poverty. He believed that the Congress’s resolution on national
development will be brought to life.

Int’l friends
highlight Vietnamese Party Congress

A senior Chinese official said he believes that under the
leadership of the freshly-elected Central Committee of the Communist Party of
Vietnam, the Vietnamese people will unite to seize opportunities and overcome
all challenges to boost the country’s renewal cause comprehensively.

Wang Jiarui, Head of the International Liaison Department of
the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the statement during his
talks with the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Beijing
on Jan. 19, the closing day of Vietnam’s
11th National Party Congress.

“The 11th National Congress of the Communist Party of
Vietnam (CPV) is a great event that commences the second decade of the 21st
century,” Wang said.

He expressed hopes that by thoroughly grasping the spirit of
the 11th National Party Congress, the Vietnamese people will step by step
accomplish the goal of turning their country into a strong socialist country
with wealthy people and a democratic, equitable and civilised society.

Wang noted in the past five years under the CPV’s
leadership, Vietnam’s
renewal cause has been unceasingly sped up with political stability, fast
economic development, the people’s improved living conditions, and positive
changes in the country.

He affirmed that under direct instructions from the two
countries’ leaders and joint efforts made by the two peoples, the China-Vietnam
cooperation and friendship had been constantly strengthened and boosted.

newspaper “The New Age” ran an article highlighting socio-economic achievements
Vietnam
has recorded during its 25 years of Doi moi (renewal process) on the occasion
of the 11th National Party Congress.

It confirmed Vietnam’s
achievements in boosting the socialist-oriented market, eradicating poverty and
reducing unemployment.

In addition, Vietnam
has made some remarkable achievements in industry and agriculture, with annual
average economic growth standing at 7 percent.

In 2010 in particular, the country’s GDP reached US$101.6
billion, increasing more than threefold in comparison to the past five years
and per capita income rose to US$1,168 per year.

Vietnam
has also become the world’s second largest rice exporter, following Thailand, with
six million tonnes of rice exported last year.

A number of socio-economic development goals for the next
five to ten years given in the political report at the Party Congress was also
referred to. The author said these goals showed the determination of the
Communist Party of Vietnam and Vietnamese People in the socialist oriented
national development strategy and achieving their goals of improving living
conditions and the efficiency and the quality of development alongside
combining economic growth with realisation of social progress and equality.

The article also reflected the interests of citizens in the
Congress process and spoke highly of the Party’s self-criticising spirit while
admitting its shortcomings and faults that affected the implementation of some
development goals set by the 10th National Party Congress.

*** The Chairman of the Cuba National Assembly, Ricardo

In an interview with a Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Havana on January 18, the
Chairman confirmed that the Congress reflects the CPV’s determination to
implement its key task of developing the country under the Party’s leadership.

He also highly praised the Vietnamese people’s contributions
to the congress’ Political Report, which he said, showed a spirit of democracy
and a close connection between the Party and people to increase the Party’s
leading role.

Chairman Alarcon spoke highly of Vietnam’s
socio-economic achievements during nearly 25 years of renewal and said that the
CPV’s achievements are also those of Cuba, which will strengthen
relations between the two countries.

Despite the challenges posed by the global economic crisis,
climate change and conflicts around the world, Vietnam has consolidated its
political system and national unity together with maintaining independence,
national sovereignty, territorial integrity and a socialist society.

Vietnam
has applied creatively Marxism-Leninist and Ho Chi Minh Thoughts to implement
its renewal process, he stressed, underlining the historical value of Ho Chi
Minh Thoughts.

In his opinion, the Vietnamese and Cuban people who are
imbued with solidarity have always stood side by side to overcome challenges
over half a century.

He also said he believes that the 11th National Party
Congress will be a success and new leaders will lead Vietnam to become an industrialised
country.

People respond
positively to new Central Committee

The official list of members of the 11th tenure Central
Committee of the Vietnamese Communist Party announced on January 18 has been
greeted with warm applause from the public across the country.

Le Truc Phuong, born in 1945, said he had closely followed
activities of the 11th National Party Congress and believed that the newly
elected Central Committee, announced publicly on the mass media, will continue
to lead the country to new victories.

Ngo Thanh, a retired civil servant in the Central Highland
city of Pleiku,
also said he had paid special attention to the election of new Central
Committee members.

According to Thanh, the Congress proved to be highly
democratic as it allowed and encouraged party members and congress deputies to
nominate or run for the positions in the Central Committee.

Meanwhile, soldiers in Naval Zone 5 who guard the country’s
southwestern sea and islands also showed keen interest in the Party Congress.

Captain To Xuan Khanh at a radar station on Phu Quoc island
affirmed the importance of the Party Congress to the country’s development.
