VietNamNet Bridge - The 11th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) has received warm applause from international experts and reporters over the past ten days. They highly appreciated Vietnam’s achievements since the renewal process was launched in 1986 and expressed their belief that with policies and strategies approved at the Congress, and under the sound leadership of the Party, Vietnam will see more significant developments in the future. China’s mass media including the China Central Television, Xinhua News Agency, People’s Daily widely covered the closing session of the Vietnam’s 11th National Party Congress. In an interview with a VOV reporter, Wang Jiarui, Head of the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said the Congress was a great festival of the CPV in the early stage of 2010s. Under the leadership of the CPV and Vietnamese Government, the Vietnamese people will successfully overcome challenges to speed up the renewal process and achieve the goal of a strong country with rich people living in a democratic, equitable, and civilized society. The Chairman of the Cuba National Assembly, Ricardo Alarcon, emphasized that the 11th National Party Congress was an important event to lead Vietnam on the way to socialism. Mr. Alarcon said the Congress reflected the CPV’s firm resolve to implement the development strategy. He spoke highly of Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements over the past 25 years under the leadership of the Party. Despite challenges caused by the global economic crisis, Vietnam has always done its best to reinforce the political system and the national unity bloc to protect its national independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, he said. The Chairman emphasized that Vietnam has successfully applied Marxism-Leninism in its renewal process and affirmed the historic value of Ho Chi Minh Thought. The Asahi Shimbun, a major Japanese daily newspaper, considered Nguyen Phu Trong a pillar of theory for the CPV and said that the new leadership will follow the Party’s renewal policies to promote Vietnam’s economic development. Another Japanese newspaper, Sankei, said the report approved at the Congress shows Vietnam’s political consistency with its renewal process, especially as it has decided a pilot programme to admit business owners to the Party. The CPV will attract the participation of all social classes, it said. According to Japan’s NHK Television, the new leaders of the CPV voiced their determination to promote Vietnam’s economic growth. Alastair Leithead, an Asia-based BBC correspondent, said delegates to the Congress reached a high consensus when approving the country’s five-year socio-economic development plan and voting a new Party leadership. It confirmed Vietnam’s achievements in boosting the socialist-oriented market, eradicating poverty and reducing unemployment. In addition, Vietnam has made some remarkable achievements in industry and agriculture, with annual average economic growth standing at 7 percent. In 2010 in particular, the country’s GDP reached US$101.6 billion, increasing more than threefold in comparison to the past five years and per capita income rose to US$1,168 per year. Vietnam has also become the world’s second largest rice exporter, following Thailand, with six million tonnes of rice exported last year. A number of socio-economic development goals for the next five to ten years given in the political report at the Party Congress was also referred to. People respond positively to new Central Committee The official list of members of the 11th tenure Central Committee of the Vietnamese Communist Party announced on January 18 has been greeted with warm applause from the public across the country. Le Truc Phuong, born in 1945, said he had closely followed activities of the 11th National Party Congress and believed that the newly elected Central Committee, announced publicly on the mass media, will continue to lead the country to new victories. Ngo Thanh, a retired civil servant in the Central Highland city of Pleiku, also said he had paid special attention to the election of new Central Committee members. According to Thanh, the Congress proved to be highly democratic as it allowed and encouraged party members and congress deputies to nominate or run for the positions in the Central Committee. Meanwhile, soldiers in Naval Zone 5 who guard the country’s southwestern sea and islands also showed keen interest in the Party Congress.
