Foreign media has highlighted the 11th National Congress of the Communist Party
of Vietnam (CPV), which opened in Hanoi
on January 12.

Foreign media has highlighted the 11th National Congress of the Communist Party
of Vietnam (CPV), which opened in Hanoi
on January 12.

Granma newspaper, an agency of the Communist Party of Cuba,
on January 12 ran an article titled “Vietnam remembers Ho Chi Minh on
the threshold of the Party Congress” with illustrated photos.

Almost 1,400 delegates were present at Ba Dinh Square on January 11 to lay
flowers in tribute to the late President, the paper said.

The Congress will deliberate and adopt the country’s
socio-economic development strategy and plan and elect a new leadership of the
Party, it said, adding that the delegates, representing over 3.6 million Party
members nationwide, will pass the draft documents on national development,
which affirms the socialist orientation of Vietnam’s economy.

Also the same day, Cuban television and radios reported on
this important event of the Party and people of Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Japan’s
NHK reported the CPV’s 11th National Congress opened in Hanoi with a call to reach an economic growth
rate of 7-7.5 percent a year in the next five years.

Radio the Voice of America said the ongoing Congress bears
an important task to elect a new leadership to lead the country to overcome
growing economic challenges, not only in the next five years, but also in the
next two or three decades.

The US’s
website www.businessweek.com wrote Vietnam’s Party would emphasised
economic growth over the next decade and address mismanagement at state-owned
firms at this week’s National Congress.

The website quoted Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh in
his remarks at the congress’ opening session as saying that “We must pay
attention to the quality and efficiency of growth and sustainable development”
and “We must combine economic growth with social progress and equality.”

Yougesh Khatri, a senior economist at Nomura Holdings Inc.
in Singapore said the growth
target is perfectly reasonable, adding if Vietnam do enough to curb inflation
expectations, the country can create a virtuous cycle.

Foreign reporters
praise Vietnam’s
achievements

Many foreign reporters covering the 11th National Congress
of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) have shared their positive assessments
on Vietnam’s
developments over the past years.

Reporter Carneiro Gustavo from the Communist Party of
Spain’s Avante newspaper said that his first impression when coming to Vietnam is the
country’s gigantic socio-economic development achievements.

He stressed that under the leadership of the CPV, the
Vietnamese people have overcome many difficulties and affirmed its role and
voice in the international arena. “Therefore, we will try to give information
about Vietnam,
the CPV and its 11th congress as much as possible,” he added.

Granting an interview to the Quan doi Nhan dan (People’s
Army) daily, Chief Representative of Cuban news agency Prensa Latina in Vietnam and Southeast Asia Charly Morales Valido
said that Vietnam
has been successful in economic reforms while still maintaining the objectives,
principles and viewpoints of socialism.

He said the thing he admires most is the building of a
socialist-oriented market economy in Vietnam
and the country’s achievements over the past time are valuable experiences for
the implementation of reforms in Cuba.

While applauding Vietnam’s
achievements, especially in agriculture, A.Chiconcela from Mozambique’s Bulletin Information newspaper said
that besides reporting the CPV’s 11th National Congress, he will together with
his colleagues introduce more about the country and people of Vietnam, thus
helping strengthen the understanding and cooperation between the two countries.

Reporter Kazuhisa Miyake from Japanese news agency Kyodo,
who has covered four consecutive congresses of the CPV, stressed that the 11th
congress is very important for the CPV as well as for Vietnam as it will discuss and
decide development orientations for the nation in the next stage.

“Vietnam
is renovating and we are sure that Vietnam will continue its renewal
process,” he said.
