PM hails Front co-operation Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has hailed last year’s coordination between the Government and the Viet Nam Fatherland Front, saying the endeavour had helped strengthen national unity and create consensus in the society. Dung made the comments during his address at an annual working session to review the implementation of the cooperation mechanism between the Government and the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee last Saturday. Dung stressed the country’s efforts towards socio-economic development, political security and public order last year in the face of difficulties and challenges. He attributed the achievements to the leadership of the Party and State, the people’s consensus and close cooperation among State agencies, especially the coordination between the Government and the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee. This cooperation had helped both sides fulfil their tasks and address people’s concerns, said Chairman of the Front’s central committee Huynh Dam. The Fatherland Front had responded to all Government’s campaigns and encouraged people from all walks of life to participate in its activities, he added. This year, the Government and the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee will expand their cooperation to strengthen national unity, work towards socio-economic development and promote national defence, security, and public order. Party theory focuses on reality Head of the Party Central Committee Theory Council, To Huy Rua, has highlighted the recent Party theory research contribution to the compilation of Party Congress documents as ground for the Party leadership and State management. Mr. Rua said at a meeting in Hanoi on January 8 that a draft political report to be submitted at the upcoming Party Congress calls for stronger theoretical research in combination with further drawing experiences in order to make clear issues on ruling party, socialism and the road towards socialism in Vietnam. He also said the report urged further research on issues emerging from the renewal process to help work out sound policies and guidelines in service of the national development. Mr. Rua pointed out a need to generate a democratic environment in theoretical research by facilitating dialogues and exchange of scientific viewpoints in order to encourage innovation and promote collective and individual knowledge. He urged Party theoretical research institutions to improve their operations on the basis of reality and focus on the 30 year renewal process. The next programme of political theory research should be closely based on the 11th Party Congress documents, especially the political platform (supplements), the 2011-20 socio-economic development strategy and the political report, the senior Party official added. Mr. Rua is also a Politburo member and Secretary the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, who chairs the CPVCC Commission of Information and Education. The programme of political theory research on the 2006-10 period has met its target with all the 32 research projects winning the State recognition. They have focused on the practical elements in Party political programme, current global situation and its trend in the years to come, Party and State external policy and creative application of the Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh thoughts on socialism and international integration into reality. The research also looked into all aspects of the current trend towards market economy and global integration from the angle of Vietnam’s firm stands towards socialism and conservation of cultural identity. Social democracy and progress well as democracy promotion in the Party and society, national unity and Party renovation and strengthening were also major topics of the research. At the opening ceremony, Mr Phong presented a congratulatory message from the CPV Central Committee to Sweden’s National Party Congress. He met with SKP President Anders Carlssons and introduced the programme of Vietnam’s 11th National Party Congress to other international delegations. The Swedish Party Congress reviewed the socio-economic and political situation in Sweden as well in the world over the past year, elected a new central committee and devised political guidelines and operational plans for the years to come. The SKP confirmed its continuous efforts to pursue the path of communism, struggle to protect the interests of the working class and combat policies affecting social welfare. The SKP said it would continue to support solidarity movements with other parties which are struggling for national independence and socialism. On the occasion, Anders Carlssons was re-elected as SKP President. People’s Procuracy urged to improve performance President Nguyen Minh Triet has called for an overhaul of the procuracy service, which is responsible for prosecutions and legal matters. Triet, who was speaking at a meeting in Ha Noi last Saturday, said the procuracy service must be improved to ensure offenders did not escape prosecution or that innocent people were not punished. He asked the sector to work with the courts to improve the quality of legal proceedings at procurator’s hearings to protect the Party, the socialist legal system and people’s rights. The President said the procuracy service must improve the dissemination of Party and Government policies and laws on combating crime. He also stressed the need to improve ethical training of officials to ensure they upheld the rule of law. Transparency also had to be boosted, Triet said. The President praised the progress made on carrying out the Politburo’s resolution on judicial reform up to 2020 and the National Assembly’s resolution on socio-economic development. He also said the quality of procurators’ supervision and the court process itself had improved. He said the Supreme People’s Court had co-ordinated successfully with central judicial offices to institutionalise the key tasks of judicial reform aimed at renovating the organisation and improving the operation of the courts, people’s procuracies and investigative agencies. Triet requested delegates to focus on discussing their shortcomings and to learn from past experience. Among the tasks that need to be tackled are low standards of performance and inefficient supervision of judicial operations. He also said there had been too many wrongful arrests over the past year, which had enraged the public. Participants at the meeting were told that this year the procuracy sector would also speed up judicial reform and improve staff training. Greek man awarded VN friendship medal Kostas Sarantidis, a Greek citizen (also known under the Vietnamese name of Nguyen Van Lap), was awarded the Friendship Medal and granted Vietnamese citizenship on Saturday in recognition of his contribution to fostering the traditional friendship and co-operation between Viet Nam and his country. President Nguyen Minh Triet made the presentation on behalf of the State and Government of Viet Nam. Triet said the country’s development had been helped by people like Lap, a former French legionnaire who changed sides during the war to join Regiment 803. The President added that Lap had also taken part in a number of activities to help consolidate and develop the friendship and multi-faceted co-operation between Viet Nam and his homeland. Sarantidis said he was greatly honoured to receive the medal and thanked the State and Government of Viet Nam for the award as well as his training in the Viet Nam People’s Army. Sarantidis, 81, fought with Vietnamese Communist forces from 1946 to 1956, as the country struggled to gain independence from France. Now retired, he lives in Viet Nam. VNN/VOV/VNS |
