Pope Benedict XVI Thursday appointed Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli as a non-resident representative to Vietnam.

Archbishop Girelli, until now apostolic nuncio to Indonesia, was born on March 13, 1953 in Predore village, Bergamo province, Italy

He was ordained a priest in the Catholic Church in 1978 and obtained his Doctorate Degree in Pastoral Theology in 1987.

The archbishop previously served at nunciatures in Cameroon, New Zealand, the US and the Vatican Secretariat of State.

Recently, Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation of the Evangelisation of Peoples and Ambassador to Pope Benedict XVI, attended the closing ceremony of the Catholic Church of Vietnam’s Jubilee Year in La Vang parish and met with PM Dung on January.
