HCM City will nominate 55 candidates for the election of the 13th National Assembly, with 44 of them comming from the city and 11 from the central Government.

HCM City will nominate 55 candidates for the election of the 13th National Assembly, with 44 of them comming from the city and 11 from the central Government.

The decision was made at the first consultation meeting held by the city Fatherland Front Committee on Thursday to discuss candidates to the NA election on May 22.

Besides the 11 candidates introduced by the central Government administration; two were from the city’s Party organisation and three from the city NA’s Delegation and the municipal People’s Council.

Seventeen were from the city’s Fatherland Front Committee, political and social organisations; two from the city’s army forces; three from the city’s judiciary agency; eight from the city’s education, health care, labour, invalids and social affairs groups; seven from the enterprises section and two from the religion groups.

Duong Quang Ha, chairman of the HCM City Fatherland Front Committee, said the city was expected to have a high number of self-nominated candidates.

The total number of candidates will be about double the number of deputies to be elected, according to the city Fatherland Front Committee.

The NA Standing Committee has assigned HCM City to elect 30 deputies for the 13th NA.

The city plans to have more than 35 per cent of its NA deputies female, about 11 per cent of deputies young people, and 11 per cent non-Party members.

On the same day, the city Fatherland Front Committee also held the first consultation meeting to prepare for the election of the municipal People’s Council for the 2011-16 term.

The number of the deputies elected fr the municipal People’s ouncil for the 2011-16 term is around 95, equalling the umber of deputies of the current term.

On Wednesday and Thursday, several provinces and cities, including Ha Noi, Da Nang City, Nam Dinh, Kon Tum, Dong Thap and Phu Yen provinces also held their first consultation meetings to prepare for the elections of the 13th NA and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2011-16 term.

On Wednesday, the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee held the first consultation meeting in Ha Noi to discuss the make-up of the deputies to be elected to the 13th NA.

It is estimated that the total elected deputies for the 13th NA will be 500, including 183 deputies representing the Central Government and 317 deputies representing localities.

The 13th NA is expected to have 10 – 15 per cent of its deputies as non-Party members.
