VietNamNet Bridge - Acting President of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) Yoshito Sengoku has requested the Vietnamese Government create favourable conditions for Japan’s long-term investment in Vietnam.

Yoshito Sengoku expressed his impressions of Vietnam’s socio-economic development at a meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in Hanoi on February 25.

Based on the strategic cooperation partnership, mutual understanding and trust, the Vietnam-Japan strategic cooperation will see deeper and more effective development, for common benefit and development of both countries, the DPJ leader said.

He also expressed the wish to cooperate in the exploration and exploitation of rare earth and nuclear-powered electricity generation with Vietnam.

PM Dung welcomed results from a working session between the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the DPJ acting president, affirming his visit would make a practical contribution to bilateral cooperation development.

He wanted Japan to increase its official development assistance to implement projects signed with Vietnam, including the North-South highway and the Hoa Lac high-tech park.

Regarding construction of the nuclear power plant, he said this is a strategic project, so it is necessary to have an agreement between the two governments. He asked both countries’ relevant agencies to engage in discussions to devise the agreement.

He also expressed his wish that the two sides will have long-term cooperation in rare earth exploitation.

The PM asked Japan to simplify visa procedures, creating agreeable conditions for bringing Vietnamese to study, work and visit in Japan.

*** The Presidential Envoy of the Republic of Korea (RoK), Choi Joong Kyung, has expressed his country’s special interest in industrial and technological cooperation with Vietnam.

Choi, who is RoK Minister of Knowledge Economy, showed the interest during his meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in Hanoi on February 25.

He said the RoK will devise plans to encourage young Vietnamese to study technology in the East Asian nation.

PM Dung affirmed that Vietnam is looking forward to stronger cooperation with the RoK in the mentioned areas. He urged relevant agencies of both countries to start talking on the application of RoK’s “Technology Park” model in Vietnam.

The RoK minister also met with Cabinet Minister and Chairman of the Government Office Nguyen Xuan Phuc the same day. He proposed that the two countries should intensify exchange of information in order to reach agreements and work out concrete projects of cooperation.

For his part, the host minister asked for RoK’s further assistance in high-quality human resource development, transfer of technological advances and stronger cooperation in information technology, especially the Government e-database project that the two countries have signed.

The RoK is a leading investment partner in Vietnam. The two Asian nations have similar populations of overseas communities in each other’s country, estimated at 100,000.

These communities are said to play a role as a bridge of friendship to promote economic cooperation, cultural exchange and mutual understanding and trust.
