Welcome for head of Sachsen State Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung yesterday, March 29, received Governor of German’s Sachsen State, Stanislaw Tillich, who brought Sachsen enterprises to Viet Nam to study investment opportunities in the country. The Prime Minister said he hoped the two countries would boost co-operation in education and training, adding that the birth of the Viet – Duc University was a symbol of the bilateral relationship. Dung thanked the German government as well as the state authorities for creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese people to live, learn and do business in Germany. He said he hoped the Sachsen State would continue sharing with Viet Nam its experience in education management, science and combating corruption. Dung suggested the countries co-operate in solar energy, construction and mining. Stanislaw Tillich stressed that despite the geographical distance, Viet Nam has always been important to the German state’s development strategy. The state would create favourable conditions for businesses to invest in Viet Nam, he said. The Vietnamese community has become ambassadors for the friendship between the two nations and it was they who would boost co-operation programmes in the future. Germany is Viet Nam’s largest European trade partner with two-way trade reaching US$5.8 billion last year. Vietnam-Cambodia friendship to develop strongly State Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan has expressed her belief that with efforts by states and people, the friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia will continue to grow and flourish. The Vice State President was speaking at a reception for visiting delegation of Cambodian citizens headed by Khun Chhy, former Cambodian Transport Minister, in Hanoi on March 29. She applauded the traditional friendship and mutual assistance and fostered by generations of Vietnamese and Cambodians during the past struggle for national liberation and the current process of national construction and emphasized the need to uphold these precious traditions. Khun Chhy appreciated assistance from the Vietnamese people to help the Cambodian people escape from genocide and said Cambodia will never forget the help and devotion of the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers in the past. He informed the host that during the visit the delegation met Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts, who had helped the Cambodian people overcome their past difficulties. The same day, the Cambodian delegation was received by Vu Xuan Hong, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations, who expressed his hope that the visit would contribute to boosting the traditional friendship between the two people. The Cambodian delegation also paid a tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum. Dutch Crown Prince’s delegation visits HCM City The Dutch Crown Prince Williem Alexander, Princess Maxima and their entourage arrived in HCM City on March 29 as part of their official visit to Vietnam. The Dutch Crown Prince is scheduled to witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation between HCM City and Rotterdam, and cooperation between the Vietnamese Exporters Club and the Centre for the Promotion of Imports from developing countries known as CBI, an agency of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The delegation will also attend seminars on water management and socio-economic development in HCM City, zoning plan for Mekong River Delta, and animal husbandry and cooking safety and visit several Dutch businesses in HCM City such as Dutch Lady, De Hue citys and NedSpice. Forum reviews administrative procedure law The Ministry of Justice and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) held the second Judicial Policy Dialogue Forum on the Code of Administrative Procedure (CAP) in Hanoi on March 29. At the event, Dr. Dao Thi Xuan Lan, Judge and Tribunal President of the Administrative Court of the Supreme People’s Court, presented the new contents of CAP 2010. Dr. Nguyen Van Hien, Deputy Chief of the Central Steering Committee on Judicial Reform, introduced foreign countries’ experiences in dealing with the Supreme Court’s decisions and made comments on Vietnam’s mechanisms. The delegates also heard presentations delivered by Nicholas Booth, UNDP Vietnam Policy Advisor for Rule of law and Access to Justice, and Dang Thanh Son, Director of the National Centre for Judicial Records. Military delegation visits Brunei A high-ranking Vietnamese military delegation led by Deputy National Defence Minister, General Nguyen Huy Hieu, paid an official visit to Brunei from March 27-29. During the three-day visit, the delegation met and held talks with Brunei’s Deputy Minister of Defence, Dato Pakuda Haji Mustappa Haji Sirat. The two parties highlighted bilateral relations in defence, which they said could match political relations between the two countries. The two sides expected to further foster cooperative ties in many fields under the agreement on defence cooperation signed in November, 2005. They also agreed on the exchange of young officer exchanges, English language training, relief and rescue activities and anti-piracy in the future. Deputy Minister Nguyen Huy Hieu extended his thanks to the Brunei Ministry of Defence for helping Vietnam successfully organize military and defence meetings of ASEAN in 2010, especially the Fourth ASEAN Defence Ministers (ADMM-4) and the ASEAN Defence Minister’s Meeting - Plus (ADMM+) organized for the first time in Vietnam. COVA delegation visits Laos A delegation from the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (COVA) led by Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Thanh Son is on a visit to Laos from March 28-31. At a reception for the delegation on March 29, Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Doangchay Phichith welcomed the delegation’s visit and expressed his wish that both sides will promote cooperation and share experience to foster the friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos. Mr Son congratulated Laos on the successful organisation of its 9th People’s Revolutionary Party Congress and briefed the Lao Deputy PM on the situation of the Vietnamese community abroad and the outcome of talks between the COVA and the Liaison Committee for Laos. The Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs will promote cooperation with its Lao counterpart to effectively implement the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the two committees that was signed the same day. Under the MoU for the 2011-2015 period, both sides will continue to work together closely and help each other in encouraging their people to contribute more to the homelands and fight hostile elements that could undermine the two countries. VUFO receives Cambodian delegation The Vietnam Union of Friendship Associations (VUFO) held a meeting with a Cambodian delegation in Hanoi on March 29. At the meeting VUFO Chairman Vu Xuan Hong briefed the delegation on the Party and State’s foreign policy and thanked the Cambodian Party, State and people for their great support to Vietnam.
