Nuclear power project in Vietnam still on the way

VietNamNet Bridge – “The National Assembly (NA) has approved the construction of nuclear power plants in the Ninh Thuan province, and the plan has not been changed until now”, said NA Office Chair Tran Dinh Dan on March 17, during a press conference on the upcoming NA session.

Dan said that the incident at Japan’s Fukushima nuclear power plant can affect the world nuclear power development strategy. “The incident in Japan will be the lesson for other countries, including Vietnam. The Government and the Prime Minister will pay special attention to the nuclear power projects and safety will be the top priority when the projects are implemented.”

According to Dan, this issue will be discussed at NA sessions and the government would have answers for it.

Nguyen Sy Dung, Vice Chair of the NA Office, stated that in the upcoming NA session, the last of the 12th tenure; they will approve four bills: the Law on Independent Auditing; Law on Prevention of Human Trafficking; Amended Code on Civil Procedure; and the Law on the Capital City.

The NA will consider reports on the management and use of the social insurance fund in 2010, the implementation of the law on gender equality, the use of VND3.5 trillion of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), and others.

Reports reviewing the 12th tenure of the NA; the President, the cabinet and some cabinet members will be sent to NA deputies, and will be discussed at the NA.

The discussion of the reports on the implementation of social-economic development plan in 2010 and in early months of 2011 will be aired live on VTV.

The session will take place from March 21 through 29 in Hanoi.
