No government members involved in mismanagement at the infamous state-owned Vinashin shipbuilding group will be disciplined, Standing Deputy PM Nguyen Sinh Hung announced Monday during the National Assembly’s 9th session in Hanoi.

This is a decision from the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam, he said.

The decision, according to Hung, came out after a vote was conducted by the Politburo in line with the Party’s regulations.

Through this decision, the Prime Minister, deputy Prime Ministers and many government members were requested to criticize themselves, draw experiences and continue to steer the restructuring of Vinashin.

Earlier, the Politburo had received from the Party’s Central Inspection Commission a report saying that government members involved in the Vinashin case including the Prime Minister and deputy Prime Ministers had weaknesses in managing the giant group.

The Inspection Commission’s report added that they had seriously criticized themselves regarding their responsibilities and that they did not deserve to be disciplined.

To date, government inspectors have completed inspection and audits at Vinashin and is preparing a report to be submitted to the Prime Minister.

Last year, Vinashin’s top officials came under fire for causing the state-owned shipbuilding giant to rack up losses amounting to more than VND80 trillion (about US$4 billion).

Its former chairman and CEO Pham Thanh Binh was arrested early August last year for “intentionally violating State’s regulations on economic management, causing serious consequences.”
