Nguyen Ngoc Dinh, chief of the VFF’s Democracy-Law Department, told the media on April 1 that provinces and cities completed the vote of confidence of local constituents to NA election candidates.

According to Dinh, 179/183 candidates nominated by central agencies won 100 percent of votes of confidence. Only four of them gained 87-98 percent of the votes.

Many provinces have 100 percent of candidates who won 100 percent of confidence votes, for example Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Son La and Yen Bai.

There was no question about candidates’ assets or corruption activities.

Some provinces that have high number of independent candidates like Hanoi and HCM City completed the vote of confidence. In Hanoi, of 30 independent candidates, some won 100 percent of confidence votes while some obtained only 5-10 percent.

In other provinces, independent candidates don’t win high votes of confidence. In Thanh Hoa province, where there are only two independent candidates, one withdrew from the election before the vote of confidence. The another candidate obtained only 24 percent of confidence votes.

According to Dinh, candidates who have votes of confidence of less than 50 percent will be still on the list that will be submitted to the third consultation meeting. However, candidates who don’t win high votes of confidence will not be listed in the final list of NA candidates.

There are 1,085 people running for the NA election this year, including 183 people nominated by central agencies and 902 from provinces and cities.

There are 201 non-Party candidates, 188 re-elected nominees, 282 young candidates, 388 women and 173 ethnic minority candidates.

The results of the vote of confidence will be reported to the third session of the Election Council this week.
