Co-operation between the armies of
Viet Nam and China played an important role in boosting the comprehensive
strategic co-operation partnership of the two countries, said Party General
Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Trong,
who is also National Assembly Chairman, made the remark while receiving Senior
Lieutenant General Guo Boxiong, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission
of the Communist Party of China, in Ha Noi yesterday, April 13.

Trong
said he highly valued the outcomes of talks between high-level military
delegations, and urged the two defence ministries to exert efforts, work closely
together to implement signed agreements, and contribute to boosting Viet
Nam-China relations.

The
Party, State and people of Viet Nam would spare no effort together with the
Party, State and people of China to elevate the Viet Nam-China “comprehensive
strategic co-operation partnership” to new heights, for the benefit of both
countries’ people, for peace, stability and development in the region and the
world, Trong affirmed.

Vice
Chairman Guo Boxiong, who is also a Politburo member, stressed that with the
shared motto of “friendly neighbourliness, comprehensive co-operation,
long-lasting stability, future-oriented vision” and the spirit of “good
neighbours, good friends, good comrades, good partnership”, the comprehensive
strategic co-operation partnership between the two parties, states and peoples
had been unceasingly strengthened.

Trong
and Guo emphasised that the Viet Nam-China traditional friendship built and
fostered by President Ho Chi Minh, President Mao Zedong and leaders of both
countries and parties were valuable treasures of the two parties, states and
people as well as a firm foundation for development of each country.

Vivid manifestation

Prime
Minister Nguyen Tan Dung also received Guo yesterday, and described his current
visit to Viet Nam as a vivid manifestation and contribution to promoting
relations between the two Parties, armies and peoples.

Basing
on the spirit of both camaraderie and brotherhood, Dung proposed the two sides
talk and seek fundamental and long-lasting measures acceptable for both sides on
the East Sea issue, which would contribute to peace, stability, co-operation and
development in the region and the world.

Guo said
his current visit to Viet Nam aimed at promoting relations between the two
armies, specifically to help military ties equal the China-Viet Nam
comprehensive strategic co-operation partnership.

During
talks between the two armies, he said they agreed to increase high-level
exchange visits and strategies, and share experiences in building and managing
the army. They also agreed to continue co-operation in short-term training and
exchange of military cadets, co-operation in rescue, and improving capacity in
response to non-traditional security challenges.

Guo also
agreed with Dung’s viewpoint in solving the East Sea issue, affirming efforts to
join with Viet Nam to consider and solve issues that both sides acknowledge as
differences.

Defence
Minister General Phung Quang Thanh, who is also deputy secretary of the Central
Military Commission of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, also held talks
yesterday with Senior Lieutenant-General Guo Boxiong after a welcoming ceremony.

The two
sides agreed that consolidating and developing the strategic comprehensive
co-operation partnership was the unchanged motto of the two Parties and States
and that Viet Nam’s and China’s armed forces would further strengthen exchanges
and co-operation to help speed up Viet Nam-China relations for peace and
stability in the region.

They
signed a training co-operation agreement between the two defence ministries for
2011.
