Vietnam welcomes Slovakian businesses to seek investment opportunities as the two countries have great potential to expand their cooperation, President Nguyen Minh Triet said Thursday.

He made the statement while receiving Slovak Minister of Economy and Construction Juraj Miskov in Hanoi, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

Miskov said at the meeting that the Vietnam visit by the Slovak delegation was a clear indication of the country’s interest in enhancing its cooperation with Vietnam in trade and investment.

Vietnam is a gate for Slovakia to enter the ASEAN market and Slovakia can likewise serve as a link for Vietnam to penetrate European Union markets, the agency cited the minister as saying.

According to the Slovakian Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam exports  electronics, footwear and garment products to Slovakia while importing animal feed, plastic materials and machinery.

Slovakian companies are now interested in many sectors in Vietnam including infrastructure, healthcare and real estate, the embassy said. It also noted that a cooperation agreement would be signed between the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) and Eximbanka SR, a lender that supports Slovakian exporters.
