Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on Saturday
urged the northern province of Quang Ninh to focus on coal mining and thermal
power, shipbuilding, cement production, tourism and the border economy in order
to more fully tap its potential for sustainable development.

He asked
provincial authorities to co-ordinate with the Vinacomin Group, the State-owned
mining giant, to build thermal power plants and turn Quang Ninh into a major
national thermal power production centre.

The
province should also create favourable conditions for businesses to invest in
tourism services, the Hai Ha Seaport Industrial park, and the Van Don Economic
Zone, and seacooking production, Dung said. He also reminded the province to pay
greater attention to environmental protection, healthcare and human resources
training.

Provincial officials called on the Government to hasten approval of provincial
projects to build the Van Don and Mong Cai-Hai Ha economic zones, as well as
assist the province in building some major transportation projects.

They
also briefed Dung on preparations for yesterday’s elections for the 13th
National Assembly and for People’s Councils for the 2011-16 term.

In
addition to his meeting with local authorities, Dung visited a factory of the
Quang Trung Engineering Co in the city of Uong Bi. The factory makes up to 1,000
cranes per year for the domestic market.

In 2010,
Quang Ninh Province achieved a growth rate of 12.7 per cent.

In the
first five months of this year, Quang Ninh saw industrial production value rise
8.8 per cent year-on-year, while budget revenues rise 19 per cent.
