The
delegation aims to promote the achievements of Viet Nam’s Chairmanship during
2010 in its continued efforts to strengthen solidarity and bond amongst ASEAN
members.

Viet
Nam’s successful chairmanship helped create suitable conditions for the
establishment of an ASEAN community, based on the three major pillars of
political security, economic and social development, by 2015 while also
promoting its own central role in the region and contributing to the creation of
a more favourable environment for security and development.

During
its chairmanship Viet Nam proved successful in mobilising countries in support
of its own attendance at the G20 Summit in Canada as well as that of the
Republic of Korea on behalf of ASEAN member countries.

The 2011
ASEAN Summit is chaired by Indonesia and carries the theme of “ASEAN Community
in a Global Community of Nations.” The Summit will witness the launch of a draft
pertaining to the establishment of an ASEAN community within a global community
of nations, the actual adoption of which might only take place during the 19th
Summit held in Bali in November.
