Vietnam has reiterated its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos in its latest diplomatic note to the United Nations’ General Secretary, Vietnam News Agency reported Friday.

The note, which stressed that Vietnam had historic and legal evidence to confirm its sovereignty over the two archipelagos, was sent on Tuesday, after the Philippines and China logged notes stating their position, according to the news source.

In its note dated April 5, the Philippines protested China’s “nine-dash line” territorial claim over the East Sea, and on April 14, China sent a note in response to the former’s move, it said.

According to a national conference on the East Sea held in Hanoi on April 26, in the note, China made no mention of the line, but only said that “China’s Nansha (Vietnam’s Truong Sa) Islands are fully entitled to territorial sea, exclusive economic zone and continental shelf.”
