The Vietnamese foreign ministry on Thursday condemned a Chinese newspaper for publishing an article on the East Sea matter with incorrect information and a lack of goodwill.

“China’s violations of Vietnamese sovereignty have upset the Vietnamese people. Some Chinese newspapers, including the Global Times, have made comments that lack goodwill and do nothing good for the relationship between Vietnam and China, further complicating the situation,” the ministry spokeswoman Nguyen Phuong Nga said at a press briefing.

Previously, in its commentary entitled "China must react to Vietnam’s provocation" published on Tuesday, the Global Times, an English-language newspaper under the People’s Daily, claimed that current disputes in the East Sea mostly originated from Vietnam.

It also suggested that China use military counterstrikes as an option to deal with the developments.

Nga said information carried in the commentary was incorrect and hurtful for the relationship between the two peoples.

People who are in favor of peace would not agree with such information, she said.

Asked about the recent demonstration by many people in front of Chinese Embassy and Consulate in Vietnam, Nga said they showed Vietnamese people were upset about China’s provocative acts.

However, she stressed that Vietnam insists on solving all problems, including disputes, in the East Sea via peaceful dialogue.
