Le Hoang Quan received 89 out of 91 votes to continue to lead the HCMC People’s Committee

Le Hoang Quan, incumbent chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, was re-elected for a new term on Wednesday with nearly 94 percent of the vote.

Quan, who holds degrees in law and politics, received 89 out of 91 votes for his 2011-2016 tenure at the first meeting of the new HCMC People’s Council.

Born in the southern province of Binh Duong in 1953, Quan was first elected to the post for the 2004-2011 period.

After his re-election, Quan promised that he and city leaders would address key problems like environmental pollution, flooding, and inflation.

Also at the meeting on Wednesday, 53-year-old Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, head of the HCMC Party Unit’s Propaganda and Education Commission, was elected as chairwoman of the city People’s Council.

Tam polled 91 out of 94 votes, or 96 percent, for the 2011-2016 tenure, replacing Pham Phuong Thao.
