A unique competition for cats in Vietnam took place in late January 2011 in Chuong My district, Hanoi to honor the cat that can kill the largest number of rats, the enemy of crops.

The idea for the competition came from Dr. Nguyen Van Thanh from the Hanoi Agriculture University. “We should not depend on science and technology too much. We should respect the rules of nature. The duty of cats is to catch rats to protect crops. We should not kill cats and use technical methods to kill rats,” Thanh said.
