When going to school these days, female students in the southern Tay Ninh province’s capital town are haunted by a threat: being slashed on the thighs or buttocks by bad men using a razor or small knife while riding on a scooter.

Many have been too fearful to go to school alone.

Recently, there appears a group of young men riding scooters stalking schoolgirls who travel alone to slash them on their butts or thighs, said locals.

The first victim was D. Q., a 12th grade schoolgirl, who was travelling to Tay Ninh High School on her electric bicycle on the morning of March 7.

When Q. got to Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, just a short distance from the school, two young men riding a scooter behind her suddenly sped up to get closer.

To her astonishment, the guy sitting behind the driver used a small knife to slash her on her left thigh.

The slash, about 10 cm long, torn her white trousers and made her bleed from the thigh.

Another victim was H., also a student of the school. “About 6:30 a.m March 8, when I was 100 meters away from my school, a young man riding behind me cut me on my right thigh with a cutter looking like a paper knife,” H. recalled.

In all the cases happening on March 7 and 8, the perpetrators used the same kind of vehicle: a grey scooter, locals noted.

Quach Van Cho, headmaster of the Tay Ninh High School, said four girl students of the school have fallen victims.

Many other high schools in the town, including Hoang Le Kha, Tran Dai Nghia and Chu Van An, have issued a notice warning their students about the risk.
