With the power supply situation having been improved, the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) has requested electricity corporations nationwide not to cut power supply at least from now until the end of the month.

Those corporations were also asked to prepare enough power to meet the demand that may increase in upcoming holidays, April 30 and May 1.

Thanks to recent rains, the water levels of reservoirs in many hydroelectric plants have increased to nearly equal the average level of the past several years.

This situation will help the plants operate at higher capacity and produce more electricity, the EVN said.

In addition, the second turbine of the Son La Hydropower Plant underwent a successful trial run on Tuesday. If everything continues well, it will officially generate electricity on April 25, contributing about 10 million kWh per day to the national grid, the group said.

Meanwhile, the Electricity Moderation Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade also said if there are no unexpected incidents, the country will not lack power from now to June.

With reservoirs having enough water thanks to rains, the electricity provided by hydropower plant from now to June is expected to be 700 million kWh higher than the plan set early this year, the Department said.

Meanwhile, overhauls at some power plants have been completed, enabling them to resume normal operation, it said.

In addition, the electricity imported from China will be raised by 100 million kWh per month starting this month, it added.
