VietNamNet Bridge – Deputy Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Education and Training, Le Quang Huong, has asked the Hanoi Education and Training Department to investigate the issues written in teacher Do Viet Khoa’s letter of denouncement and report to the ministry.

On November 10, Do Viet Khoa, a teacher, sent a letter of denouncement about the wrongdoings of Van Tao High School and Van Tao High School’s Headmaster, Le Xuan Trung. The 11-page letter of denouncement was sent to the Hanoi Inspection Agency and Hanoi Education and Training Department.

Several days later, on November 14, Khoa was assaulted in his home and had his camera, which is worth VND 19 million, stolen. The men who assaulted Khoa were Nguyen Van Dong and Tran Van Xuong, both security guards from Van Tao High School.

Tran Van Xuong has been put in temporary detention by Thuong Tin district police for damaging the assets of other people, while Nguyen Van Dong is still working for Van Tao High School.

Explaining how Nguyen Van Dong’s is able to continue working for the school, Deputy Headmaster of Van Tao High School, said that the school has been busy working with the police and preparing for a Vietnamese Teachers’ Day performance, and therefore the school’s leaders did not have time to deal with Dong. Hoa said that the school has asked Dong to file a report about the case, while still allowing him to work at the school. Moreover, teacher Khoa has not filed a report about the assault to the school

Meanwhile, Khoa affirmed that he has been trying to contact the school’s leaders to report the case immediately following the assault, but all the leaders have been absent since then.

Khoa related that two strange men, ‘members of the underworld,’ were also present at Khoa’s home on November 14. One of the men said that they were promised VND 5 million to ‘forewarn’ Khoa.

At a meeting between the Ministry of Education and Training’s inspectors, Van Tao High School’s leaders and Teacher Do Viet Khoa, on November 22, Headmaster Le Xuan Trung denied that he hired the men to make threats against Khoa.

Though the two men, who directly assaulted Khoa, were employees of Van Tao High School, Trung has been insisting that the assault took place outside the school and outside of school working hours.

Regarding Khoa’s denouncement about Trung’s wrongdoings, Trung has asked the ministry’s inspectors to clarify the denouncement, which Trung calls ‘contrary to fact of reality.’

Meanwhile, Khoa has asked that the wrongdoings of the Headmaster of Van Tao High School are inspected and clarified, specifically if Trung hired people to make threats against Khoa. Teacher Khoa also said that he calls for protection for himself and his family’s members’ lives.

Le Xuan Trung became the headmaster of Van Tao High School in the 2007-2008 school year, replacing the old headmaster, who was disciplined because of the serious violations druing the final exams in 2006. The violations were denounced by teacher Do Viet Khoa.

According to Khoa, right after taking office, Trung announced: “The old headmaster did not dare, but I dare remove the Do Viet Khoa cell.” The words by Trung were quoted by Khoa in the letter of announcement sent to the Hanoi People’s Committee’s inspectors and the city’s Education and Training Department. Khoa also sent the recording of it as proof.

At the working session on November 21, the involved parties promised to cooperate with the police to clarify the case.
