Teacher Do Viet Khoa reported that on November 14, a group of people came to his house in Van Tao commune in the Thuong Tin district of Hanoi. He said they verbally abused him, assaulted him and stole a Nikon D70S camera. They allegedly questioned Khoa about the complaint he filed against leaders of Van Tao High School.

Tuan said that the investigation is still underway, and no official conclusion has been made as the police have got contradictory statements from Van Tao High School staffs and security guards, and some local residents.

However, the Thuong Tin district police affirmed that Tran Van Xuong, born in 1959, a security guard at Van Tao High School, did in fact steal the camera. Xuong has been arrested for this.

“If something extraordinary is found in the case, we will have to report it to the city’s police agency, because it proves to be very sensitive,” Tuan said.

After the working session with Thuong Tin police, Tien phong’s reporters two times went to Van Tao High School asking to meet leaders of the school to talk about this. However, they were told that the leaders were off on business. The reporters could not contact the leaders because their mobile phones were off.

Meanwhile, Tien phong newspaper received a dispatch from Van Tao High School, which affirmed that the school was not involved in the case, and these were just the activities of several individuals.

The leaders of Van Tao School affirmed that the school did not build the four classrooms outside the school’s precinct as Khoa thought. The classrooms were built by Nguyen Van Dong, a security guard at the school, which he is leasing to the school’s teachers for extra lessons.

Meanwhile, Khoa said that he has not been invited to meet with leaders of the school since the assault occurred.
