VietNamNet Bridge – The Ministry of Education and Training plans to organize meetings this week to release the twelfth and latest draft of the education and training development for the period of 2008-2020.

The draft strategy will continue to be open for public opinion. The general goal of the draft strategy is to build an education, modern but full of national characteristics, which can serve as the foundation for the industrialization and modernization, which can be able to bring the opportunities for learning to everyone, and can be deeply integrated into the world’s education.

80% of people at their age have high school degree

The draft strategy has set the goal that by 2020, 100% of Vietnam’s communes and wards will have nursery schools. The implementation of the program on the preparation in Vietnamese language for 5-year-old children in remote and ethnic minority areas will receive the special attention in the period.

Under the draft strategy, by 2020, Vietnam will have 80% of youth obtain their high school degrees. 100% of districts nationwide will have education continuing centres, while 95% of communes and wards will have community learning centres.

Vietnam will have universities that can meet international standards

The period will see the breakthrough in vocational training, when the percentage of the trained labourers will increase considerably. By 2020, Vietnam will have 65% of labourers going through training.

It is also expected that by 2020, Vietnam will have 30% of students graduating from secondary schools and 30% of students graduating from high schools to enter vocational schools or career establishments.

That same year, Vietnam will have 450 students per every 10,000 people, while 40% of total students will have studied at non-state university establishments. It is expected that there will be five universities meeting international standards which will be ranked among ASEAN’s top 100, and two universities to be listed among top 200 of the world.

Foreign language teaching will be given reasonable attention

In order to settle the current problem that most of students graduating from universities, colleges and vocational schools cannot speak foreign languages, the draft strategy has set up the goal of having 70% of primary school students beginning to learn English from 3rd classes by 2020.

The students graduating from high school will have to have the capability of using foreign languages and informatics, while students of universities and junior colleges will have to use English in study and research.
