VietNamNet Bridge - The campaign “Learn Without Fear” was launched today at Cat Linh Primary school in Hanoi by Plan Vietnam in cooperation with Bureau of Child Care and Protection, Ministry of Labours, Invalids and Social Affairs.
The launching ceremony aims to call for attention of government offices, sectors, organisations, unions, media agencies, teachers, parents and students on physical and emotional punishment and call for social collaboration in minimizing this tension. It was presented by Mr. Phung Ngoc Hung, Vice-Minister of Ministry of Labours, Invalids and Social Affairs and Mr. Mark T Pierce, Country Director of Plan in Vietnam and over 250 representatives from government offices, sectors, organisations, unions, political and social organisations, non-governmental organisations and teachers, parents and pupils from Hanoi and some other provinces. The campaign Learn Without Fear is implemented to encourage teachers to apply positive educational methods without violence in school, and to ensure that children are protected from physical and emotional punishment. This is a global program supported by Plan in over 60 countries worldwide. This program is implemented in 3 years (2008-2011) in Vietnam. Prof. Van Nhu Cuong, headmaster of Luong The Vinh Secondary School in Hanoi is the goodwill ambassador for this program. “We are calling every teacher, student, parent, school manager, and government functional body to act together to build a friendly school where students can learn without fear. Every individual effort to protect children at school can certainly make a change in our whole society,” said Mark. T. Pierce, Country Director of Plan in Vietnam and adding that “Let build a friendly school without violence with model teachers and friendly students so all and every child – the future of our country – can enjoy the school, can learn and develop in an environment full of love”. With the slogan: Model teachers, friendly students, the campaign Learn Without Fear aims to change adults’ behaviors, ways of thinking and attitudes towards punishments and violence in school, which make them understand that friendly school is the dream of all pupils and true love and understanding children’s psychology and wishes is the only way to build up this model. At the launching ceremony of Leran Without Fear campaign, children’s dream of a school full of love is expressed vividly via “the world of colours and dreams” in two big children’s collages and paintings. A series of outdoor activities are organized for children to illustrate that children can learn and be creative at their best through playing. The campaign song and video clip will also be presented at this event. The campaign Learn Without Fear or Friendly school is implemented at national level in 2008-2011. At local level, the program is implemented in Plan project sites in Bac Giang, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Quang Ngai and Hanoi. The program is supported by Finland government with the total budged of 1.2 million Euros. In the next three years, the program focuses on awareness raising and behavior change to help teachers and parents to use positive teaching methods. Besides, the program also trains children in life skills and skills to prevent and avoid being punished emotionally and physically. Moreover, child protection systems at communities are strengthened so children can effectively access these services. (Source: CPV) |
