VietNamNet Bridge – The Ministry of Education and Training will focus on improving ways to assess the quality of education during the next school year.
The decision is in line with the ministry’s target of having all universities and colleges being able to assess their own education quality by 2010 and 80 per cent of universities and 50 per cent of colleges receiving quality verification from independent organisations. Honing education Quality assessment contributed to ensuring and improving education as schools could better hone their education and training programmes with regular assessments, said Dr Nguyen An Ninh, head of the ministry’s Department for Educational Quality Examination. Self assessment was a popular trend in education sectors around the world, said Ninh. The ministry will mobilise its own resources to give its own officers training abroad in assessment and verification of education quality. Examination and quality verification centres will also be established at universities and colleges. In addition, the ministry is also encouraging universities and colleges to have their teaching and training programmes verified by international verification organisations such as the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology for technical universities and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business for accounting and business management courses. Relevant authorities also agreed that departments of education and training in localities should improve their skills of assessment and verification. Viet Nam has 173 universities and 178 colleges that can assess their own educational quality. So far, 110 universities and 77 colleges have established educational quality centres and assessment of teaching quality has been implemented. (Source: Viet Nam News) |
