Nguyen Van Cuong, an 11th-grade student at a high school in Cau Giay district in Hanoi, spends VND200,000 a month to hire someone to do homework for him.

Students nowadays are burdened by too many exercises

“There are more exercises for extra classes than the exercises for the lessons at school. Teachers always give a lot of home exercises after every lesson. I have extra classes everyday, one or another subject,” Cuong said.

The time fund of Cuong proves to be limited. He returns home from school at 12 noon, finishes lunch at 1 pm, and then leaves home again for extra classes. Cuong does not return home until 5 pm. After that, he has classes with tutors and only can begin doing exercises at 9.30 pm.

It seems that Cuong’s parents don’t understand Cuong’s problems. His father always promises to send Cuong abroad to study, while his mother tries to bring as much cooking as possible to his desk, so that he can get everything he needs at once.

Cuong’s parents hope that their son can grow to become a talented person. But they don’t know that in order to complete all these things, Cuong has to hire someone to do exercises for him.

In order to be able to go to dance halls

Mai’s parents say that they allow Mai to go to dance halls, provided Mai can learn well and fulfill all the exercises teachers ask her to do.

“It is not a difficult task for me. I still go to school every day, my exercises can be done by other people. Therefore, I can go to the dance hall every evening. My parents are busy all the time, and they just need to know that I do all exercises.

When supply meets the demand

Cuong has found a person who can do his homework for him. The person is a friend of Cuong’s tutor.

Cuong said that he spends some VND200,000 a month to hire the person to do home exercises, which is equal to a half of the money his parents give him for his breakfasts and allowance.

Meanwhile, Mai has to place advertisement pieces on the Internet to seek someone to do exercises for her.

There are a lot of advertisement pieces on websites. “I want someone who can help do English exercises for 10^th class. Those who can help please contact 0906xxx. Thanks a lot”. This advertisement piece has attracted 80 visitors so far.

Lam, Cuong’s tutor, has also been providing that kind of service. “I have found out that students nowadays are burdened by too many exercises. There are a lot of students, like Cuong, who are incapable of doing all the exercises. I’m here to help these students,” he said.

Lam said that the students who seek persons to do exercises for them mainly come from high-income families, who have a lot of money, but don’t have enough time to do all the exercises.
